Laboratoire Georges Friedel

Manageress : Anna Fraczkiewicz
Assistant manageress : Christophe Pijolat

Research at the Laboratoire Georges Friedel focuses on materials for application in the fields of energy, transport, and chemistry. Domains of competences include material science, physical-chemistry of solids (divided and massive), mechanics and chemical engineering. In particular, the Laboratoire Georges Friedel undertakes multiscale modeling from nano to macroscopic scale including finding technological solutions, improving knowledge and design of materials and processes with respect to their functional properties

Expertise provided by the Laboratoire Georges Friedel to LABEX covers :
  • Functional and reactive surfaces and interfaces : understanding and modeling reactivity of solids (surface and bulk physical-chemistry), environmental degradation of metals and surfaces, surface functionalization, visual and tactile properties of surfaces, application to additive manufacturing (powder recyclability, surface durability).
  • Processes in dispersed and multiphasic media : physical-chemistry and dynamics of granular and particulate solids: image analysis, morphological characterization and space-time models. Application to additive manufacturing (powder rheology), simulation of functional properties of solids with respect to their morphology.
  • Physics and mechanics of materials : changes in microstructure related to contact-induced and laser-induced thermomechanical loadings, modeling plasticity and failure of materials and interfaces, micro-scale characterization of microstructures and mechanical properties, grading materials and surface mechanical treatments for surface durability, application to additive manufacturing (microstructures, surface treatments).
  • Mechanics and direct manufacturing processes : surfaces and interfaces, sintering, interfaces in composite materials. Application of gradient and architectured materials in design, Development of multiscale finite element methods to surface wettability and viscous flow.
  • Technical platforms : XRD & GIXRD, X Ray tomography, XPS/AES, TEM, FEG-SEM, AFM, HR-EBSD, Instrumentation and mechanical tests, Physical-chemical characterization of powders and granular materials, inorganic material synthesis, thermal analysis...
