IREIS

IREIS is a subsidiary of the HEF Group. The role of IREIS is to conduct research and development in surface engineering. It covers a wide field of activities from surface modifications to characterizations, including material science, processes, scaling up... and from low to a high TRL level for industrial transfer.









Expertise provided by IREIS to LABEX covers :

• Thin films and plasma sources : a wide range of technologies including PECVD, sputtering and arc evaporation, microwave sources and ionic assistance. Hard coatings and multilayers (including diamond-like carbon), coatings for electrical properties (insulating, conductive), corrosion protection, optical properties.
• Tribology : fretting corrosion, erosion, low friction and solid lubrication, lubrication/roughness interactions, thin film surface fatigues.
• Laser microtexturing : for tribological purposes, patterning, modification of wettability, optical properties...
• Direct manufacturing : by SLM in combination with the use of advanced coated powders, composites.

IREIS is also setting up a technology platform centered on friction reduction in internal combustion engines. This platform will have a wide range of tools :

• Starting from low TRL levels, like basic tribometers (reciprocating cylinder on flat),
• to intermediate TRL levels through tribometers involving same power dissipation as in real contacts (ring on flat) and finally,
• to high TRL levels including systems like a fired floating liner monocylinder, monocame valvetrain, journal bearing machine able to validate innovative surface design for tribology applications.
